Nicole counsels clients on federal employee benefits laws and regulations, including the Affordable Care Act, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and the Internal Revenue Code.

Nicole primarily focuses her practice counseling clients on the complexities of employee benefits, including the Affordable Care Act (ACA), ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and IRS and DOL regulations.  Nicole has extensive experience in the public and private sectors handling legal and compliance issues, 10 years of which she focused specifically on healthcare-related legal, compliance, and public policy issues. Nicole’s knowledge of the ACA extends back to 2010 when she worked as an attorney and public policy professional with the Florida House of Representatives and studied the ACA along with a team of other healthcare policy professionals to determine the potential impact on Floridians. Since then, she has helped numerous companies understand their obligations under the ACA and has led webinars and in-person speaking events on ACA and ERISA-related topics.

 

In addition to her experience in employee benefits, Nicole has experience in employment law, where she previously served in private legal practice and as a compliance manager at a human resources outsourcing agency focusing primarily on FLSA, ADA, leave of absences (including FMLA), and sexual harassment and employment discrimination issues.

 

Nicole’s work with clients has been in a broad range of industries, and her knowledge of employment and employee benefits laws and regulations allows her to bring a comprehensive approach to her practice.

 

Personal Information

 

Nicole’s prior law firm experience includes Carlton Fields (Miami and Tampa offices) and Alston & Bird (Atlanta office).  Nicole served as Assistant General Counsel to Florida Governor Jeb Bush (2005-2006) and as Deputy General Counsel and in other public policy roles at the Florida House of Representatives (2006-2010). More recently, Nicole worked for two brokerage firms and as a Legal Editor at ThinkHR.
